Connect 2 PCs to one monitor?
I have a new monitor for my pc which has 1 dvi 1 vga and 1 hdmi port on the rear.
I have 2 high end pcs one for business and one for pleasure and both have high end graphics cards both with 2 dvi ports and no vga.
If i connect one pc from dvi to dvi and the other from vga to vga via will the monitor have any conflicts if they are both pligged in at the same time?
BUT Please note only one pc will be on at any given time they will NEVER both be switched on at the same time.
On the other hand i have a vga to hdmi convertor to hand and a spare hdmi cable will this work instead of the vga cable ?
Both pcs have seperate keyboards and mice and both have sepeate soundcards as well. A kvm switcher would be an idea but i have everything i need to continue if any of my suggestions will work.
SO in a nutshell
Can i have both the dvi and vga or hdmi ports connected on the monitor at the same time with only one pc on at a time ?
Will the hdmi route be better quality than the vga as both will need convertors which i have one pc has an internal audigy 4 soundcard with a 5:1 surround sound system and the other an external pro quality soundcard and pro studio grade audio monitors.
Would appreciate any ideas or thoughts on the best way to move forward.
I have everything i need but am reluctant to try out my ideas in case i screw things up or destroy anything in the process.

If the input sources VGA DVI are switch selectable on the monitor itself your approach should work. Its just easier and spacesaving to use a KVM switch.
